Huttweather is pleased to announce that it has replaced it's old equipment with a new Davis Vantage Vue station as of 12 June 2010. This has been a big change for us - the cost of replacing the whole station is not small, and there are other considerations that need to be taken into account, such as new software, and locating the new hardware for the most accurate recording.
Davis have long been known amongst weather enthusiats as a reliable brand. The Vantage Vue, although only released in 2009, has the same pedigree as it's Vantage Pro 2 cousins, with a level of accuracy in line with those units, and far surpassing the older hardware in use by Huttweather.
The Oregon Scientifc unit has served us well for a number of years, but as the model is now no longer available, finding replacement parts has been increasingly difficult, and this had become a frustrating issue over the last few months. The Vantage Vue unit provides updates to the weather station software more regularly than the old system, and therefore the results tend to be more accurate of current weather conditions. For example, wind gusts are sampled up to 10 times in the same period that wind gusts were sampled with the old equipment, ensuring that wind extremes are reported more accurately. |
